MILKIS
Like the popular sweet of a similar name, Milkis is a sweet treat that promises 'New feeling of soda beverage'. Does the curiously named beverage live up to the hype, or does it drip through the fine threaded sieve of quality through to the overflowing mediocrity slop-bucket casually thrown onto the floor below.
PRESENTATION
Milkis comes bottled in a particularly fetching green bottle, probably to conceal the porridge-y looking milky white liquid inside. The label is covered in strange heiroglyphs, perhaps from a bygone oriental civilization. As far as layout goes, the label is not as inviting as the hilarious tagline might suggest, showing us some bizairre scenario involving a little ragtime man trying to fly into space with a balloon only to be impaled by the spikes of the sun, very milky. But enough about the look, how does it taste?
TASTING NOTES
I was surprised upon opening the drink that it was in fact carbonated, this must be the 'new feeling' that i was promised. The Milkis itself is actually quite pleasant, if not a little too sweet. Subtle hints of marzipan and a strong medicinal punch at the back combine to create an overall flavour that evokes memories of trips to the corner store on a Sunday morning. It is thin and refreshing, best served cold as once the temperature begins to rise so too does the sickly sweetness. I would have preferred more bubbles as well, but this is not bad considering their ambitious approach to soda beverage creation.
WEIRDNESS
Despite the relative nice-ness of this drink, i was disappointed with its weirdness. With a name like Milkis, one would come to envision a milky, thick mucus-like refreshment. This is more like a typical soft drink than a weird drink, and although the strange floating man on the label goes a small way in weirding things up, the drink itself falls flat.
